<br>ในยุคดิจิทัลที่ข้อมูลไหลเวียนอย่างรวดเร็ว พฤติกรรมหนึ่งที่ปรากฏชัดและส่งผลกระทบอย่างลึกซึ้งต่อการรับรู้และปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางสังคมคือ “การปั่น” บนแพลตฟอร์มโซเชียลมีเดียอย่างเฟซบุ๊ก การปั่นในที่นี้หมายถึงการสร้าง การส่งต่อ หรือการเพิ่มจำนวนเนื้อหา การกดไลค์ การแชร์ หรือแม้แต่การแสดงความคิดเห็นอย่างเป็นระบบและมีเป้าหมาย เพื่อทำให้ข้อมูลชุดหนึ่งดูมีความนิยม มีอิทธิพล หรือมีความน่าเชื่อถือมากกว่าที่เป็นจริง งานสังเกตการณ์นี้มุ่งสำรวจปรากฏการณ์ดังกล่าวผ่านการสังเกตแบบมีส่วนร่วมและไม่มีส่วนร่วมในพื้นที่ออนไลน์ตลอดระยะเวลา 3 เดือน โดยมุ่งวิเคราะห์แรงจูงใจ รูปแบบพฤติกรรม และผลกระทบที่อาจเกิดขึ้น

<br>การสังเกตเบื้องต้นเปิดเผยให้เห็นว่า “การปั่น” แสดงออกในหลายรูปแบบที่ซับซ้อนและปรับตัวได้ รูปแบบที่ชัดเจนที่สุดคือการปั่นเชิงพาณิชย์ ตัวอย่างที่พบเห็นบ่อยคือโพสต์เกี่ยวกับสินค้า บริการ หรือสถานประกอบการ โดยเฉพาะร้านอาหารและสถานที่ท่องเที่ยว จะปรากฏการเข้ามากดไลค์และแสดงความคิดเห็นในเชิงบวกจำนวนมากภายในเวลาอันสั้นจากบัญชีผู้ใช้จำนวนหนึ่ง ซึ่งมีลักษณะเฉพาะคือมักเป็นบัญชีที่สร้างใหม่ มีกิจกรรมเพียงการกดไลค์หรือคอมเมนต์สั้นๆ ซ้ำๆ และมีรูปโปรไฟล์ที่ไม่ชัดเจนหรือใช้รูปสต็อก การสังเกตโพสต์รีวิวร้านอาหารแห่งหนึ่งพบว่า ภายใน 1 ชั่วโมงหลังโพสต์ มีการกดไลค์เกิน 500 ครั้ง และมีคอมเมนต์ชื่นชมกว่า 100 ความคิดเห็นที่ใช้ภาษาคล้ายคลึงกัน เช่น “อร่อยมากครับ”, “ต้องมาอีกแน่นอน” โดยมีรูปแบบประโยคและเวลาการโพสต์ที่ใกล้เคียงกัน สิ่งนี้ชี้ให้เห็นถึงการทำงานของระบบหรือกลุ่มบุคคลที่รับจ้างปั่นยอด engagement ให้กับเพจธุรกิจ

<br>นอกจากเชิงพาณิชย์แล้ว ยังมีการปั่นในประเด็นทางสังคมและการเมืองที่สังเกตได้ชัดเจนในช่วงที่มีเหตุการณ์สำคัญหรือช่วงเลือกตั้ง โพสต์หรือบทความที่มีเนื้อหาโน้มเอียงไปทางความคิดใดความคิดหนึ่งจะได้รับการแชร์และมีปฏิกิริยาจำนวนมหาศาลอย่างรวดเร็วจากกลุ่มบัญชีผู้ใช้ที่มีแนวโน้มจะแสดงออกในทิศทางเดียวกัน บางครั้งการปั่นนี้มาพร้อมกับเนื้อหาที่มีอารมณ์รุนแรง (emotional content) เพื่อกระตุ้นให้เกิดการมีส่วนร่วมและแพร่กระจายที่เร็วขึ้น ตัวอย่างที่น่าสนใจคือกรณีข่าวหนึ่งซึ่งมีการแชร์ข้อมูลจากแหล่งข่าวที่ไม่ชัดเจน พบว่ามีบัญชีจำนวนมากที่แชร์ข้อความเดียวกันเป๊ะๆ ภายในเวลาติดต่อกัน โดยบัญชีเหล่านี้มักมีเพื่อนในจำนวนที่สูงมากแต่มีปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อกันน้อย ซึ่งอาจบ่งชี้ถึงการเป็นบัญชีที่ถูกสร้างหรือใช้เพื่อวัตถุประสงค์เฉพาะ

<br>แรงจูงใจเบื้องหลังพฤติกรรมการปั่นนั้นหลากหลาย จากการติดตามและวิเคราะห์บทสนทนาในบางกลุ่มปิด (closed groups) ที่มีการพูดคุยถึงบริการปั่นไลค์และปั่นแชร์ พบว่าแรงจูงใจหลักแบ่งออกเป็นสามด้านหลัก ด้านแรกคือแรงจูงใจทางเศรษฐกิจ ทั้งในรูปแบบการรับจ้างปั่นโดยตรงเพื่อสร้างรายได้ หรือการปั่นเพื่อส่งเสริมธุรกิจของตนเองให้ดูมีชื่อเสียงและดึงดูดลูกค้าจริง ด้านที่สองคือแรงจูงใจทางอุดมการณ์หรือความเชื่อ บุคคลหรือกลุ่มที่มีอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองหรือสังคมเดียวกันอาจรวมตัวกันหรือประสานงานเพื่อปั่นเนื้อหาที่สอดคล้องกับความเชื่อของตน เพื่อขยายอิทธิพลทางความคิดและสร้างบรรยากาศทางสังคมให้เป็นไปในทิศทางที่ต้องการ ด้านที่สามคือแรงจูงใจทางจิตวิทยา和社会性 เช่น การต้องการเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของกลุ่ม การต้องการได้รับความสนใจ หรือแม้แต่การตอบสนองต่อแรงกดดันจากสังคมให้ต้องแสดงออกในประเด็นร้อน
